Tips for Dining Out With Children:

Some parents may dread eating in public with their children. Here are some tips that may make your family dining experience more enjoyable:
1. Pack a small bag with age-appropriate toys, crayons, and paper. Make sure each child has his or her own bag.
2. Bring a small container with cheerios for the older babies and toddlers. This will keep their hands and mouths busy while waiting for a meal.
3. Have the wait staff put the kids’ orders in right away – hungry children often have meltdowns more easily.
4. If your child is 5 years old or older, have him place his own order. Teach him how; this will build confidence in your child.
5. Limit their drink intake especially before they eat. Filling up on milk certainly will make eating the meal harder. (You’re not giving them pop – right?)
6. If your children are finicky eaters, then split a meal so that you are not disappointed if they don’t finish their dinner. Or just be prepared to box it up – it is not worth the battle.
7. Kid’s meals are not always a better deal. Splitting an adult meal between two children or perhaps between a parent and child may cost less and then you’ll all have room for dessert!
8. Older children often want to bring their electronic games. Let them, but insist the games get shut immediately when the wait person or the food arrives.
9. Enjoy your time together. Use this time to ask questions and to talk to one another. For instance, have your preschooler write her name, while your older child can practice his math skills with drills and games.
10. Remember to tip well – especially if you leave a mess!

Thanks for Date Night!

Thanks to Miss Jenn and Miss Michelle, several of us moms and dads enjoyed date night - including Mark and Madonna. I hear the kids had a great time, as did Michelle and Jenn. Miss Madonna had a surprise when an old familiar face showed up as a guest with one of our clients. Great to see you, Nathan! Nathan is now school age, but he came here for many years, as did his big brother (he was one of my first babies 15 years ago!). Zach is going into high school now. They grow so fast!
Anyway, thanks to Michelle and Jenn for forcing me and Mark to go out! We really had a good time. I don't remember the last time we went out together - without kids or friends. I actually do have a husband and he's alright!

Time for a date night?
Miss Jenn and Miss Michelle wanted me to let you know that they are hosting a Kids’ Night Out at M & M Daycare this Saturday Night. All the money goes to them – I’m donating the location. They are buying the pizza etc. for dinner. They already have a handful of kids, so I would say they have room for 3 or 4 more.

KNO 6:00-11:00 PM
$15/1ST child
$10/each additional sibling
$5 extra til midnight ($3/sibling)

As usual, they’ll have to wind down to a movie at 9:30, so the little ones should all be asleep at pickup time (send their jammies and a toothbrush).
Give us a call at the daycare if you’d like to bring your kids. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Quick notes from Madonna

We have finalized our fall curriculum and are looking forward to all the exciting things planned to make learning fun for our kids (and teachers!). Get ready to explore the tropical rainforests in September!

I can't believe that there are just a few more weeks of summer left. Although it didn't seem much like summer, I personally didn't mind it because the kids really don't need 90 degree weather. I am also pleased about our DTE bills the last two months. Several hundred dollars in savings because we didn't need to use the AC - no complaints from me!

This summer has been really fun with the return of school-age kids. In a couple weeks, the school kids will be done with camp and they'll be here all day until school resumes. I will be asking them to bring their bikes to M & M so we can venture into town a couple days a week. We will really miss all the excitement when they return to school.

We had high hopes of taking weekly walks into town with the infant through preschoolers, but after our first venture out, the teachers and kids alike realized it was just too far for the little legs to handle. We still take regular walks around the neighborhood.

I still can't believe it's August. This is the quickest summer ever! Boo hoo.
